Oliver Kreylos has succesfully hacked the Microsoft Kinect to create a 3D depth of field that can be freely navigated around. By combining the color and the depth image captured by the Microsoft Kinect, one can project the color image back out into space and create a “holographic” representation of the persons or objects that were captured.

And below is an amazing example of augmented reality, where Oliver has projected a Hell Knight from Doom 3 onto his desk! :D

  1. Very nice!!
    Could be implemented a set of, say, 3 kinetics in different places so it could reconstruct the hole room?
    Would it be much more difficult to implement or is it something you could do with your actual skills?
