This 20 minute walkthrough – first unveiled to press at E3 2011 – shows a great deal of gameplay, with game director Todd Howard explaining the title’s new features.
Skyrim’s main story revolves around the player character’s efforts to defeat the Nordic dragon god Alduin who is prophesied to destroy the world. Set two hundred years after Oblivion, the game takes place in the land of Skyrim in the midst of a civil war after the assassination of the high king. The open world gameplay of the Elder Scrolls series is continued in Skyrim, as the player character can explore the land at will and ignore or postpone the main quest indefinitely.
Part 1: Introduction
Todd explains the new advancements to the game engine, which has been used for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. Advancements have been made on every aspect of the engine from the scripting language, the faces the foliage and NPC’s. We are introduced to the standing stones which give you special abilities, the items inventory and the skills menu where you look to the skies and use the constellations to create your special abilities and magical powers.
Part 2: Into the Dungeon
We are led into one of over 150 dungeons, where the player fights a giant spider and rescues a marauder from the cobwebs, before going deeper into the Dungeon, inhabited by Trolls, skeletons and undead ghouls. Deeper in, an ancient stone door marked with runes needs to be solved in order to progress.
Part 3: Fighting the Dragon
A skirmish with a Mammoth and a Giant, until a Dragon flies overhead and attacks! The souls of defeated Dragons can be absorbed and used to cast magic spells.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released on November 11, 2011 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. You would be a fool to not play this!
